What is CHT
Brief History
Cleansing the bowel is not a new idea, in fact, it can be traced back to the days of the ancient Egyptians. The first written description of this type of therapy dates back to 1500BC in the Ebers Papyrus, an ancient Egyptian medical document. Hippocrates, Galen and Paracelsus, who recognized as the founding fathers of Western medicine, detailed, practiced and prescribed the regular use of colon cleansing.
In the United States, the popularity of colon cleansing was remarkable in the early 20th century. During the early 1900’s, enemas were commonly used as a standard practice among physicians and implemented as common treatment protocol in the majority of hospitals. The use of enema therapy greatly diminished in the 1950’s due to a decrease in use and access. Surgery and pharmaceutical drugs became more popular options as the medical community embraced the idea that “such treatments were no longer useful.” Colon cleansing became popular again at the end of the 20th century, and presently, the ancient ideas of cleansing the bowel are expanding and flourishing around the globe.
How is Your Colon?
Over time, your colon may become unhealthy and lose its ability to properly eliminate all the waste materials from your digestive tract. There are multiple factors which can adversely affect your colon, such as, a poor diet, lack of exercise, negative thoughts, stress, drugs, lifestyle and so on. Normally, your body removes waste in 16-24 hours, however, when you are not able to eliminate correctly, the waste remains and putrefies. Putrefaction is defined as the decomposition of organic matter. When your digestive system works improperly, autointoxication sets in. Autointoxication is defined as a state of being poisoned by toxic substances produced within the body. According to Dr. J. H. Tilden, “One of the first things to do to get rid of any so-called disease is to get rid of toxemia, for it is this state of the blood that makes disease possible. Disease is a crisis of toxemia, which means that toxins have accumulated in the blood about the toleration point, and the crisis, the so-called disease – call it a cold, flu, pneumonia, headache or typhoid fever – is a vicarious elimination. Nature is endeavoring to rid the body of toxins. Any treatment that obstructs this effort at elimination baffles nature in her effort at self-curing.”

Frequently Asked Questions
What is colon hydrotherapy?
Colon hydrotherapy is a natural and gentle irrigation of purified water into the rectum, by way of a sterile rectal-disposable speculum. This process allows for the colon to be cleansed of toxic waste material by repeated, continuous flushing with purified water. We use an FDA registered Hydro San Plus closed system unit, which just means that as the water goes in, water is also going out. Having two separate lines prevents contamination and drains fecal matter without odor. This therapy exercises the colon muscle, helps reshape the colon, stimulates reflex points in the colon and helps hydrate the entire body.
What can I expect from colon hydrotherapy?
Wellness of Life makes no medical claims about what colon hydrotherapy can do for you. This type of therapy is a valuable procedure used to assist the body in cleansing. We can only share results we hear from our clients. Below are benefits that clients have felt after their sessions:

How to prepare for a colonic?
We suggest refraining from the following to make the process easier for you:
- Alcohol, caffeine, and carbonated beverages
- Refined carbohydrates or processed foods
- Refined sugar products
- Fried/greasy foods
- Dairy products
- Red meat
- Soy products
- Gas producing foods (cabbage, beans, broccoli, etc.)
It is also suggested to avoid eating and drinking 2 hours prior to your session.
How much time is required for a colonic session?
Plan for an hour, but each session lasts between 30-45 minutes based on the individual.
How will I feel after a colonic session?
Most people agree that a session of colon hydrotherapy feels like an internal bath. Colon hydrotherapy does not hinder you in your day to day activities; rather, it hydrates your entire body so that you feel energized and refreshed both internally and externally.
What is the difference between colon hydrotherapy and an enema?
The average length of the colon is approximately 5-5.5 feet long. The main difference between colon hydrotherapy and an enema is that an enema only reaches the rectum and lower portion of the colon. Colon hydrotherapy reaches the entire distance of the colon. According to learned centurion Dr. Norman Walker, one session of colon hydrotherapy is equal to thirty enemas.
What is the difference between colon hydrotherapy and laxative use?
Laxatives act as chemical irritants and stimulate the muscular walls of the colon to abnormally contract to expel the vexing substance. The use of laxatives also interferes with the digestive processes occurring in the stomach and small intestine which results in electrolyte depletion and dehydration. Colon hydrotherapy cleanses the large intestine from below and does not compromise digestion higher up in the alimentary tract.
What is the role of colon hydrotherapy in disease prevention?
Research has shown that regular use of refined carbohydrates and a lack of natural fiber increases the transit time of bowel waste and stimulates putrefaction in the colon. Each year, over 140,000 individuals are diagnosed as having colon cancer and approximately 60,000 die because of their disease. Periodic cleansing minimizes the exposure of the colon walls to carcinogens.
How many bowel movements behind are you?
Let’s think! If you are eating three meals per day, seven days a week, four weeks per month, that is a total of 84 meals a month (not including snacks)! Now, take that number and subtract the number of bowel movements you are having. (Example: If you are having one bowel movement per day that is 28 per month. 84-28=56 bowel movements behind schedule). You should have two to three bowel movements per day.
